ScamBlock is designed to operate with minimal data collection:

Data We DO NOT Collect:

  • Email content, subjects, or body text
  • Sender or recipient email addresses
  • Personal information or account credentials
  • Browsing history or activity outside Gmail

2. How ScamBlock Works

ScamBlock uses advanced AI technology that runs entirely within your browser:

  • The AI model is downloaded once and cached locally on your device
  • Email analysis happens on-device using WebGPU acceleration
  • No email content is ever sent to our servers or any third party
  • Analysis results are stored only in your browser's local storage

3. Data Storage

All data is stored locally on your device:

  • AI Model Cache: Stored in IndexedDB for faster loading
  • Analysis Results: Cached temporarily in browser memory
  • User Preferences: Stored in Chrome's local storage

You can clear all stored data at any time by removing the extension or clearing your browser data.

4. Third-Party Services

ScamBlock uses the following third-party resources:

  • WebLLM/MLC-AI: Open-source AI runtime (model files downloaded on first use)
  • Hugging Face: Hosts the AI model files for initial download

These services only provide the AI model files. No user data or email content is shared with them.

5. Permissions Explained

ScamBlock requests the following Chrome permissions:

Host Permission (mail.google.com)

Required to read email content on the Gmail page for local analysis.

Storage

Used to cache the AI model and analysis results locally.

Offscreen

Required to run the AI model with WebGPU in a background context.

6. Your Rights

You have full control over your data:

  • Access: All data is stored locally on your device and accessible to you
  • Deletion: Remove the extension to delete all associated data
  • Portability: No data is stored on our servers, so there's nothing to export

7. Children's Privacy

ScamBlock does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. Since the extension processes all data locally and does not transmit any data to external servers, no personal information of any user is collected or stored by us.
